Audi R8 LMS

Audi R8 LMS

A successor of the Audi R8 - a five-times La Mans winner between years 2000 and 2005. At the first glance, the R8 LMS model looks like the R8 plus a huge adjustable rear wing, but, actually, it beats R8 in many factors.

Audi R8 LMS sports car is produced at the quattro GmbH. Many elements (with small modifications) are adopted from a production car of Audi R8. The 5.2 litres FSI V10 engine with more than 500 horsepower is supplied by The Audi Hungaria Kft. The assembled Audi R8 LMS is based on a lightweight aluminium Audi Space Frame (*), which is a perfect base for motorsports.
With a total height of 1,195 centimetres, the Audi R8 LMS has a lower centre of gravity, and it is 5.4 centimetres lower above the road than R8. To reduce car's weight, though costs has increased, Audi has chosen a carbon fibre composite for the manufacture of all outer skin. To meet the highest safety standards, only the doors and aluminium roof panel remained as of a production car. The R8 LMS weights 1,340 kg.
The GT3 version of Audi R8 was the first racing car especially developed for customer sport. This is why Audi R8 LMS offers an exceptional active safety. A features list ensuring first-class safety includes Xenon plus headlights, LED rear lights, the 3rd brake light, a rain light, a race ABS, the ASR (minutely adjustable traction control), the all wheel drive, an adjustable length and angle of steering column, the complex rapid fuelling system, a six-speed gearbox with a pneumatic gearbox control system transferred from professional racing that enables gear shifts for the driver without removing hands from the steering wheel.
The result of this craft work is "great reliability, absolute safety and perfect handling."
* Audi Space Frame (ASF) - is a high-strength aluminium frame structure into which all panels are integrated so that they also perform a load-bearing function.

Mercedes SLS AMG E-Cell

Mercedes SLS AMG E-Cell

The performace brand of Mercedes-Benz produced a new SLS AMG - an all-wheel electricaly driven supercar generating horsepower of 525 - the SLS AMG E-Cell.

Compared to its antecedent, the 6.3-liter V-8-powered SLS AMG, generated engine power is 10 percent less, and accelerates 62 mph in 4.0 seconds, which means 0.2 seconds behind the gas fueled SLS. The rating of the 324-cell lithium-ion pack's max power load is 480 kilowatts, thus, important headroom for longevity and heat is left. So, there is no need to worry that the batteries will not handle the draw from the 12,000-rpm electric motors.
Though a gauge on the instrument panel displays how much is left, Mercedes did not place an official number on the maximum, due to which the drivers were not sure about the range, but could expect running more 110 miles under normal driving conditions
